ADOPT-A-CLASSROOM PROJECT

It seems that each month of the school year is linked with an important event or holiday. The best way to get our community involved in these events is to begin by educating the children. This project is wonderful for schools, youth groups, entire churches, or local businesses that wish to help educate our community.

 

October is National Pizza Month, National Clock Month, National Popcorn Popping Month, and National Roller Skating Month. Any number of collections, shows, speeches, or projects can be created to commemorate any of these wonderful events.

November is National Farm-City Week and National Children's Book Week. A drive could be done to collect educational and fun children's books that kids can take home to their parents. Or maybe a visit to a petting zoo where your youth group provides the transportation and chaperoning.

December is a time for Christmas. Any number of group projects could be done for these events including a book reading about the holiday or maybe a drive for the LOVE I.N.C. Gift Closet.

January is National Hobby Month and National Eye Care Month. Having people share their favorite hobby and maybe teaching others how to do it is a wonderful idea.

February is National Dental Health Month, American Heart Month, and Black History Month. Collections of toothbrushes and toothpaste could be done and then delivered to the kids. African American community leaders could be invited in to talk about their history.

March is National Women's History Month, Music in our Schools Month, and Parenting Awareness Month. Your group could perform a talent show for the kids showing how important music is.

April is Month of the Young Child and National Humor Month. Creating a class joke book or watching an educational and funny movie would be fun.

May is American Bike Month and National Physical Fitness and Sports Month. Sponsor an Olympics Day for the kids or create a recipe book for the kids to give out to their parents. A group of youths could get together and repair some of the many bikes that LOVES receives.

June is National Rose Month and Zoo and Aquarium Month. A group of youths could sponsor a trip to the John Ball Zoo and could even arrange a special tour with the staff there.

July is National Ice Cream Month and National Picnic Month. A family picnic could be planned at any number of locations. Parents could spend quality time with their children while you take care of the food and the games. Some one could even bring ice cream.
