Foster Care Welcome Kits

Children's Protective Services tells us that infants and children who are placed in foster care are often moved with only the clothing they have on. Providing some items for the child as each begins residing with the foster care family is a wonderful way to show care and compassion. The child also benefits by having something to call his or her own. The following items are always helpful for the children.

Baby/Young Child Kit:

  • Disposable diapers, small tee-shirts, baby ointment, lotion and/or powder, nightlight, new baby bottles, a few soft toys and/or stuffed animals, one or two new blankets, and a new pacifier.
  • Other items may be added, if desired. Please make sure each item is safe for a baby or small child.

Place items for each child in a suitably sized plastic sack, label the sack according to the age for whom the items are suitable, and whether the items are best for a boy or a girl.

Youth/Young Teen Kit:

  • Toothpaste and toothbrush, shampoo, comb and/or brush, deodorant, other appropriate toiletry items, adult tee-shirts (used as night-shirt/pajamas), crayons or colored pencils, pens and/or pencils, notebook or notebook paper, stamps with some envelopes, and small gift certificates to Meijers (or similar stores) so the child can purchase some of their own personal items.

Place items for each child in a suitably sized plastic sack, label the sack according to the age for whom the items are suitable, and whether the items are best for a boy or a girl.

Please contact the Love INC office when you've concluded your "Foster Care Kits" collection. You'll receive instructions for the best place to bring your items.
